PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase than Requested for Water Co. in Monroe County

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission today approved a lower rate increase than requested by Penn Estates Utilities Inc., Water Division, Monroe County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve a settlement allowing an annual increase in rates of $85,000 (15.7 percent).  The settlement was reached among the Commission’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement, the State’s Office of Consumer Advocate and the company.  As part of the settlement, the monthly bill for an average residential customer using 4,300 gallons per month will increase $4.37 from $27.80 to $32.17 (15.7 percent). 

The company’s original proposal increased rates by $157,511 (29.2 percent).

Penn Estates Utilities Inc. Water Division provides water service to approximately 1,600 residential customers in Monroe County.
