PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request by York Water Co. for Wastewater Service

HARRISBURG –The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase by The York Water Co. (York Water), York County, for its wastewater service.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase in revenues of $7,144,352 (16.8 percent). The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

Under the company’s proposal, the total annual bill for a flat rate wastewater customer would increase a total of $120, from $480 to $600 (25 percent).   The proposed bills for customers using the gravity system with an annual usage of 58,464 gallons would increase $73.14 from $400.68 to $473.52 per year. The bills for customers using the repumped system with an annual usage of about 58,464 gallons would increase $98.40 from $549.12 to $647.52 a year.

York Water provides service to approximately 58,500 customers in portions of York and Adams.
