HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a request by Pike County Light & Power Co. to increase its electric and natural gas distribution rates.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the requests, which propose increasing the electric distribution rates by $1.7 million (17.8 percent) and natural gas distribution rates by $151,000 (10 percent).

Under the company’s proposal, the monthly electric bill for an average residential customer using 660 kWh a month would increase by $21.26 (22.8 percent) from $93.06 to $114.32 per month. The company provides electric service to about 4,660 customers in Westfall, Milford and Dingman townships, Matamoras and Milford boroughs, Pike County.

Also under the company’s proposal, the monthly natural gas bill for an average residential customer using 100 Ccf of natural gas would increase $13.16 (12 percent) from $109.78 to $122.94 a month.  The company provides natural gas service to 1,190 customers in Westfall Township and Matamoras Borough, Pike County.

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement. A final decision must be made by Oct. 18, 2014.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
