HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a lower rate increase than originally requested by the Borough of Schuylkill Haven Water Department (Borough) for its water service to customers outside of borough limits.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the Joint Petition for Settlement for an annual increase in jurisdictional operating revenues of $230,966 (25.4 percent). The Borough had originally requested an increase in annual jurisdictional operating revenues of $283,079 (31.2 percent). The settlement was reached among the Borough, the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement, the Office of Consumer Advocate, the Borough of Cressona, North Manheim Township and Sapa Extrusions Inc.

Under the settlement rates, the total bill for an average jurisdictional residential water customer using approximately 3,000 gallons of water per month will increase from $25.86 to $31.26 (21 percent).

The Borough provides water service to 958 residential customers and 91 commercial customers outside of borough limits.
