PUC to Investigate Electric Rate Increase Request for UGI Utilities Inc.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed general rate increase for UGI Utilities Inc. for its electric service.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which was filed on Jan. 26, 2018, and would increase annual revenues by $9.254 million (10.4 percent).  Under UGI’s proposal, the average monthly bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month would increase from $112.56 to $125.56 (11.8 percent).

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation and recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

UGI provides electric service to about 61,800 residential, commercial and industrial customers in portions of Luzerne and Wyoming counties.
