HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate water and wastewater rate increases proposed by Eaton Sewer and Water Company, Inc. (Eaton Sewer and Water), Wyoming County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the requests, which propose increases for Eaton Sewer and Water usage rates and customer charges for all customer classes of nearly 35% for water service and 45% for wastewater service.  Total annual operating revenues for water service would increase by more than $61,000 (34.8%), and for wastewater service by nearly $74,000 (45.1%).

Under the proposals, the average monthly bill for a residential water customer using 2,000 gallons per month would increase $6.48, from $18.52 to $25 a month. The average monthly bill for a residential wastewater customer using 2,000 gallons per month would increase $10.92, from $24.26 to $35.18.

The requests are suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for recommended decisions.  A final decision by the Commission is due by Feb. 28, 2020.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.

Eaton Sewer and Water Co. provides water and wastewater service to 106 residential and 25 commercial customers in Wyoming County.  The company’s current base rates have been in effect since June 28, 2008.
