PUC Approves Settlement in Buck Hill Water Company Rate Case

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a joint settlement resulting in a smaller-than-requested rate increase for the Buck Hill Water Company (Buck Hill), which serves customers in Monroe County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement filed by Buck Hill and the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate, which will result in a $76,000 (24.5%) increase in annual revenues for Buck Hill, compared to their initial request for a $106,458 (34.5%) increase. The settlement also includes a three-year “stay out” agreement, providing customers with a level of rate security.

Under the terms of the settlement, the total bill for a typical residential customer using 7,000 gallons per quarter would increase from $207.80 per quarter to $258.66 per quarter. This is a 24.5% increase, rather than the 33.5% increase in the original Buck Hill request.

Buck Hill serves 300 residential water customers and 13 commercial customers in and around the community of Buck Hill Falls, Monroe County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
