HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will hold its first-ever “Be Utility Wise” (BUW) consumer education event for Lehigh Valley human service agencies on Wednesday, Sept.18, in Northampton Community College’s Alumni Hall, Room 130A-D, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.

“Connecting Your Consumers” is the theme of Lehigh Valley’s BUW event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features presentations from state agencies, local utility companies and other financial assistance programs promoting consumer awareness, utility education, life management skills and financial literacy.

Community human service groups and other organizations working with low-income and at-risk consumers who have not yet registered for a local BUW program can call (717) 787-5722 or email RA-PC-CMU_ConsumerEd@pa.gov for more information and to sign up.

Presented as a community service of the PUC, Be Utility Wise is intended to help local human service agencies and assistance organizations better understand the utility programs and services available in their communities. The free “train-the-trainer” events bring together front-line community service agencies, utilities and other key stakeholders to learn more about financial assistance programs for utility customers, career tools for job seekers, energy conservation and weatherization, protecting against utility scams and more.
