PUC Approves Settlement for Lower Than Requested Rate Increase by City of Lancaster - Wastewater

Published on 3/12/2020

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a joint settlement regarding rates for the City of Lancaster - Wastewater (Lancaster-Wastewater), which includes a smaller than requested increase in revenues and rates for wastewater service for residents outside the City of Lancaster.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement, which provides for an increase in annual operating revenues of $500,000 per year, compared to the $646,727 annual increase included in Lancaster-Wastewater’s initial request.

Under the terms of the settlement, the average quarterly bill for a residential wastewater customer residing outside the City of Lancaster and using 12,000 gallons of metered usage per quarter will increase from $52.25 to $70.46 (approximately 34.9%), rather than from $52.25 to $75.66 (44.8%) included in the original request.

The joint settlement was submitted and supported by the City of Lancaster, the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate, the Pennsylvania Office of Small Business Advocate and the PUC’s independent Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement.

Lancaster-Wastewater provides service to approximately 3,385 total customers in portions of East Lampeter, East Hempfield, Lancaster, Manheim and Manor Townships, Lancaster County.
