HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today granted two operating certificates to paratransit services in Philadelphia and Lawrence counties.

People United Together (P.U.T), Philadelphia County, will provide service from facilities in the city and county to correctional facilities at Allenwood, and Lewisburg, Union County. The PUC received five supporting statements from individuals saying that passenger transportation service would meet their needs.

Ellwood City–based Pennsylvania Medical Transport (Medevac) will transport non-ambulatory or persons who require a medical escort in paratransit service between points in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties and from points in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties, to points in Pennsylvania and back. The PUC received seven supporting statements from individuals saying there was a need for passenger transportation service in the proposed service area.

Both People United Together and Pennsylvania Medical Transport can begin service after filing an acceptable tariff and evidence of insurance with the PUC.
