General Information


The Natural Gas Choice and Competition Act (Act) directed the Commission to convene a universal service task force. The Act directs the task force to review universal service programs and their funding and issue a report to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the General Assembly by December 31 each year. 66 Pa. C.S. ยง 2203(7). The Natural Gas Universal Service Task Force is comprised of a broad spectrum of stakeholders from the public, non-profit, and private sectors. The Commission helps to facilitate the task force, but does not participate as an active member.

Mission of the Natural Gas Universal Service Task Force


  1. Review natural gas universal service programs and funding

  2. Review and consider recommendations for the General Assembly on the use of general state revenues and other nontraditional resources for universal service.

The report reviews the natural gas universal service programs, funding, and makes recommendations to the General Assembly.
