For many consumers, deciphering a utility bill or understanding Utility Choice can be a daunting undertaking. Fortunately, PUC consumer education specialists regularly travel the state, holding workshops and providing tips to remove the mystery behind utility bills and issues.

Staff members in the Communications Office organize educational and networking opportunities on utility issues.

The PAPowerSwitch website is just one of the educational tools they use. Brochures, speaking engagements, roundtable discussions and conferences are other ways used successfully to help consumers shop wisely for utility services.

Roundtable Discussions

Roundtable discussions are some of the most popular events and are held several times a year throughout Pennsylvania. Representatives from the PUC, state agencies, senior groups, utility representatives and community-based organizations plan and oversee the educational events.

In 2001, more than 1,000 representatives attended these events to learn more about the PUC, Utility Choice, Universal Service programs, consumer protections, scams, conservation and weatherization tips, collection and termination procedures, and social service programs. The PUC, utility companies, and other organizations and groups underwrite these free events for the public.
