PUC to Accept Comments on Proposed Changes to How Electric Utilities, Competitive Suppliers Share Customer Information

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today issued for comment a Tentative Order that would provide for additional data sharing between electric distribution companies (EDCs) and electric generation suppliers (EGSs).

The Commission voted 5-0 to receive comments on the implementation of two electronic data interexchange (EDI) control changes. One of the proposed changes would enable EGSs to identify customers who have net metering arrangements with their EDC.  The other change would include Peak Load Contribution data and the Network Service Peak Load value in the Historical Usage and Historical Interval Usage data that is provided to the customer. EGSs believe that this data will be useful in minimizing capacity-related costs in order to benefit customers from movements in the market.

In 1998, the Commission established Electronic Data Exchange Standards and directed all EDCs and EGSs operating in Pennsylvania to comply with these standards. The proposed changes would update these standards.

Interested parties have 30 days from the entry date of the Tentative Order to comment on these proposed changes. Specific instructions on how to submit comments may be found in the order.  The Tentative Order will be finalized based on these comments, and EDCs will have 12 months from the date of the Final Order to implement these changes.
