EAS Working Group
Extended Area Service (EAS) Working Group
EAS (Extended Area Service) reclassifies in-state long distance calls as local calls.
By Commission order entered, June 2, 2008, the Commission convened a working group
to explore the future direction of EAS in the current marketplace. To provide guidance
to the working group at its first meeting and facilitate a recommendation to the
Commission, the following requests for information have been compiled. These inquiries
are not intended to be an exhaustive list of the issues to be addressed by the working
group.
It is the desire of the Commission that participating parties provide responses
to these inquiries to enable the Commission to evaluate and analyze the changes
in the current competitive market and its effect on EAS. In addition to any other
issues raised, these inquiries and the responses will be considered by the Commission
when reviewing the recommendation submitted by the working group.
- The types of bundled packages available to consumers. It is suggested that this
information be provided on a per company basis. Alternatively, the participating
parties may collaborate to submit a sampling of available bundled packages.
- The number of formal and informal EAS related complaints filed against each participating
company since 2005?
- The take rate for bundled packages by exchange?
- Line loss statistics, since 2005 for each ILEC.
- The existing wireline and wireless competitors active in each ILEC’s service
territory, by exchange or broad geographic region, to the extent they are readily
identifiable.
- The availability of bundled packages in rural areas where broadband has not yet
been deployed pursuant to each ILEC’s Chapter 30 NMP.
