PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase Than Requested for Hanover Municipal Water Works

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a joint settlement for a lower rate increase than requested by Hanover Municipal Water Works (Hanover), York County, for water service to its customers residing outside of Hanover Borough.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the joint settlement which was reached among Hanover, the Commission’s independent Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement, the Office of Consumer Advocate, the Office of Small Business Advocate and Hanover Foods Corporation.

According to the settlement, the company will increase its overall annual revenue by $939,990 (23 percent). The company’s original proposal asked for an annual increase in revenues of $1,698.301 (41.1 percent).

Under the settlement, the average quarterly bill for residential customers using 11,000 gallons of water will increase by $12.88, from $56.06 to $68.94 (23 percent).

Hanover Municipal Water Works provides service to 10,037 customers that reside outside of Hanover Borough in portions of Penn Township, York County; and Conewago Township and McSherrystown Borough, Adams County.
