HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today announced the appointment of Nils Hagen-Frederiksen as the new Press Secretary for the Commission.

Mr. Hagen-Frederiksen will serve as the primary point-of-contact with members of the media.

“Nils brings three decades of media-relations, journalism and consumer-advocacy experience to the PUC,” said Chairman Robert F. Powelson. “The issues before this Commission are complex and touch every Pennsylvanian. In Nils, we found a world-class, well-respected communicator to inform the media and consumers, and to tell the PUC story.”

For 13 years, Hagen-Frederiksen served as communications director and press secretary for numerous state leaders in Pennsylvania, including six consecutive state Attorneys General and the Governor’s Office of General Counsel. During that tenure, he addressed a diverse mix of public safety and consumer protection issues.

Most recently, as the Director of External Communications for the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention, a scientific nonprofit headquartered near Washington D.C., he worked to expand efforts to raise awareness about the importance of quality standards for medicines and foods, and coordinated a team of professionals in the United States, China, India and Africa to highlight global health activities.

Additionally, Nils spent 15 years as a reporter, news director and news bureau chief, providing local, state and national coverage for a network of radio stations across the United States. He received multiple awards for broadcasting excellence.

Nils is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science.
