PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase than Requested for United Water

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a lower rate increase than originally requested by United Water Pennsylvania Inc. (United Water).

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve a settlement for an annual increase in rates of $7.1 million (19.4 percent).  The Company had originally requested an increase in annual rates of $9.6 million (26.7 percent).  The settlement was reached among the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement, the state’s Office of Consumer Advocate, the state’s Office of Small Business Advocate, and United Water.

Under the settlement rates, the average monthly bill for residential customers using 3,500 gallons of water per month will increase from $34 to $40.88 (20.2 percent).

United Water provides service to approximately 58,500 customers in eight counties and 38 municipalities. The company’s four operating areas are Harrisburg/Newberry, Mechanicsburg, Bloomsburg and Dallas.
