PUC Reminds Consumers About Upcoming Public Input Hearings on PECO Prepaid Service Proposal

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled two hearings on Monday, April 24, to gather public input on a proposal by PECO Energy Company (PECO) to initiate a pilot program for pre-paid energy service.

The hearings will be conducted by PUC Administrative Law Judge Angela T. Jones at the following times and locations:

10:00 a.m.      801 Market St. (Enter on 8^th St.)
                         6^th Floor, Suite 6069 (The Betsy Ross Room)
                         (Use one of the last four elevators at the far end of the lobby)

             The PECO Petition

             In October 2016, PECO filed a Petition with the PUC, proposing to implement a prepayment program that would allow a limited number of residential customers to voluntarily enter a program in which they would pay their bills for utility service in advance of receiving that service If approved, PECO’s pilot program would be made available to both shopping and default service customers, with a limit of approximately 1,000 participants – in order to explore consumer response to this type of program.

              Offering Comment at a Hearing

              Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearings and provide comments. Their testimony will become part of the record on which the PUC will issue its final decision.

              The PUC offered the following tips on how to participate, including:

• Prepare what you are going to say beforehand.  Even though it is not required, you may want to write out your statement, which can be read.

• Bring copies if you are attending an in-person hearing.  If you have a written statement you would like to give to the judge, please bring two copies for the court reporter and several copies for the other participants.

• Plan to be questioned.  Parties in the case may want to ask you a question to clarify something you said.
