HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by the City of Lancaster - Wastewater (Lancaster-Wastewater).

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate Lancaster-Wastewater’s request, which proposes increases for all customer classes located outside the city of Lancaster – with total annual operating revenues for wastewater service increasing by approximately $646,727 (46.7%).  Under the proposal, the average annual bill for a residential wastewater customer using 12,000 gallons of metered usage/quarter would increase $93.64, from $209 to $302.64.

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision.  A final decision by the Commission is due by April 17, 2020.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.

Lancaster-Wastewater provides service to approximately 3,385 total customers in portions of East Lampeter, East Hempfield, Lancaster, Manheim and Manor Townships, Lancaster County.  Lancaster-Wastewater’s current base rates have been in effect since April 20, 2013.
